Ulterior - Wild in Wildlife
Let's go to London, taking a leap back in time: the year is 2011, tough and complicated for the British capital, musically speaking.
Emerging, definitely, is the quartet that were able to combine, take, develop elements in the rich kitchen of the early 2000s: starting from the sound to the assemblage of a Punk temperament, mitigated by the obvious Postpunk teeth. With the gigantic production of Bosnian Zlaya Hadzic (Tortoise and Sonic Youth in the baggage), the album gives a noticeable kick to a scene that had fallen asleep. Here, then, are the songs that warm the muscles of our ears and throw us into a compulsive dance, shot through with sonic gleams that illuminate their unquestionable propensity to punch and kick at a truly slumbering life. They give meaning to existence because an anarchic torch lives enthusiastically within the lyrics and manage to stimulate a considerable amount of curiosity with the clear will to shake the spirits. Guitars, bass, and drums are an army of tombstones flying towards rolling, bombastic melodies.
Needless to say, they know exactly who Killing Joke are in the stratospheric Dream Dream, which alone is worth buying the album. But don't persist in looking for reference bands: the four of them have Postpunk shovels between their fingers and know how to throw their stones far...
