My Review: Way to Blue - Life Is a Big Joke

Way to Blue - Life Is a Big Joke

A film surrounds thoughts: a magical, precious act, with its upsets, stumbles and bad habits.

And if it is the heart that is surrounded, then everything becomes dense, bombastic, like a whim shouted in the silence of an autumn that craves victims.

After May's melodic arrow entitled Love Again, the Way to Blue project returns to put before our eyes a love story that lives on expectations, frustrations, choices to be made, truths to be offered to the night.

To do all this, Vincenzo Del Corno increases the froth of his artistic mode while maintaining, compared to the previous single, only the possibility of dancing with your eyes closed. Musically, however, we find ourselves before a paralysing mood, obsessive, wildly pop as the Post-Punk of the Cerulean Veins or certain episodes of the Psychedelic Furs can be.

Everything becomes immediate, in a melodic embrace that floats in the previous decades with impetus, gratitude and an infinite thank you that also enters into the production that dusts off the stale feeling that some works of recent times have, unable to take their foot off the copy and paste.

This song tackles an important theme and does so with a lyric that is apparently as fast as the music, immediate, but do not make the mistake of considering it a drop that goes down unopposed, because the pen that painted these words has a kilometre-long trail of silences and secrets behind it: when you think that everything in art is in that performance, you lose sight of reality.

The guitar and bass, a combo with an absolute vocation for emphasis, are the privateers of a synth that closes the holes, making the perimeter of a short but effective run-up that gives the relational switch-off a chance to evolve. Here we hear notes become words, like oxygen in search of the right sky.

The Old Scribe sees a progression of the imagery of this artist/musician/writer capable of penetrating the dark zones of human becoming, struggling with his works to find a surrender, one that is detached from the useless.

Having mentioned two bands above, the impression many might have is that of a sound arrow synthesising a jukebox born in the 1980s: one may well disagree, but the undeniable pleasure and pride of hearing a song that seems to have been born in the English sky while two lovers search for their America, the one that would make them united forever, remains.

Vitaminic, powerful, this film also manages to release the drops of weeping that still run down the cheeks of the Old Scribe...

The refrain is a diamond contiguous to stanzas that sow almost secret incursions of a synth capable of offering streams of waiting dreams: everything seems suspended, governed by a guitar that acts as a forerunner to the flight, with the bass that governs and the rhythm that does not leave this creativity extinguished. In that instant, when the body rises from boredom, from laziness, and seeks a vital space to open its consciousness, one realises that there is an emotional train crashing on a rock in this composition...
