My Review: Cheb Hazyn - A World Of Dreams And Suffering

Cheb Hazyn - A World Of Dreams And Suffering

Morocco, this now misunderstood, but still beautiful jewel, has in its arms an extraordinary artist, devoted to the search for reality, without making concessions, unearthing intense textures full of black sugar, with his guitar tracing the furrow of an enchanting sadness. A Darkwave made up, but not in a flashy way, leaves room for Post-Punk, which in these five tracks seems detached from history, and does so in a prodigious way, diving into Alternative to hide its roots, then, once the right melodic line is found, winking at Shoegaze just enough to bring it closer. Cheb's singing is a parchment soaked in stories without identity stealing the show, to defraud our greed and remain in shock. Compositions as witnesses of a pain that seems seasoned, fit to paw inside our false gothic attitudes. One breathes in the feeling of a prodigal son who returns to show his face: if one looks closely one begins to weep, softly at first, then comes to torment, without escape. Song after song, one enters the labyrinth where the only possible joy is to cling to the bass and guitar, which are the pair destined to make us feel intoxication and a pleasant annoyance.

Then, surprisingly, with the track What Do You See, an electronic sphere arrives as an unexpected siren, waiting for us and it is love at first sight...

It will be very difficult to take the podium away from him as EP of the year. The position? Stupid details, here we are in front of a miracle and the fact that it comes from the African continent makes it perfect...
