Juliet Mission - Surren 


We are always inattentive with regard to other people's things, even when we say we love them. Music does not avoid this bitter realisation, it could not do it, since human beings are prone to exalting themselves and not taking into account what others do.

You put this EP called Surren, by the Denver band, on your stereo and you realise that consideration is the most remarkable act of love, the start that makes the ride a real and concrete possibility of encountering perfectly connected places, feelings and reflections. Everything moulds, fortifies, amplifies, in the spiritual zone filled with artistic content and a pronounced   attitude to evaporate their impetuosity to make solid the juice of compositions always endowed with multi-visual/sensory elements.

In 2006 the band Sympathy F. was born, then the three members, Andre Lucero, Doug Seaman and Tony Morales decided to change the name the following year, bringing substantial climatic changes to their sound pot, where emotions began to boil over.

What I have chosen to report on is currently their latest bundle of electric pulse, awarded by me as EP of the year 2020.

Within it, the three guys unleash melodies, rhythms, voices, images, cultivating a warlike passion to give necessary signals of peace through  stories with lonely but addictive tears. The vigorous instrumental mixtures are congenial to a lyrical writing of great impact, which finds in vocals the zone of melodic poetry with concepts of literary inspiration. Listening to the four tracks strengthens the feeling of a project which crosses musical boundaries. Thunderbolts with an impressive voltage, either because of guitars that put to sleep the predictable impetuosity, or because of a bass which seems to bury any impulse of serious preponderance, and also because of drums that oxidise and oxygenate everything, making the creations dynamic and compact. A remarkable ability to be dreamy and at the same time dynamic in the emotional sphere, while, from the heights of their flights, the whole takes up residence in our earthly beats.

Everything becomes a celestial burrow with purely musical aspects capable of being fearless invaders: born to involve, they sweep the clouds bringing down beauty clothed in elegant and, equally conspicuously, powerful movements. They are spiritual tensions that gracefully are able to generate the dance of benefit and amazement, without didactic confusions, because they are remarkably capable of going straight to the centre of the expressive core. Like smooth-skinned warrior poets, constantly intent on making us close our eyes like dumbfounded and almost absent spirits, the American band delivers blows with each track that do not cause pain, but only emotional movements always pregnant with a sustainable and ever-growing hospitality.

Their swirling tremors light up the sky of our beats, like a sudden holiday in which you learn that there is no end to sighs with a face in need of magic.

Incursions with a powerful backbone, inclinations to make their mild shoegaze the emergency exit of a Post-Punk with dreams still burning and masterfully kept on the sidelines of their electric constructions, make this record an example of music that while rebelling reveals a dreamlike propensity.

Come on, it's time, let's not waste time: let's get comfortable and visit their acrobatics for the necessary daily beauty lesson.


Song by Song 


Falling


A quick start: the guitar is involved in the rhythm of a spring melody which supports a song that, wrapped in clouds, knows apnea. The bass drags the two guitar riffs, one syncopated, and the drums go on solidly until a guitar solo drives the eyes to ecstasy.



Surren


Beginning with a bass in the style of Pixies in top form, the guitar brings us 80s Post-Punk diving into less feedback-filled Shoegaze for an articulate track with minimalist but effective keyboards chimes to compact the melody towards the frenzy of notes suspended in the air.



Hush


Take The Cure of Simon Gallup of the period of Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and make them schizophrenic with vocals close to Marilyn Manson, keeping the atmosphere neurotic with drums rolling heavily until apnoeic guitar hisses are welcomed. Extreme, noisy, with a string arrangement that can happily screech along with "clean" feedback.



Never Last


For the last track we return to the area of the Ep's opening: between a dreamy atmosphere and a Shoegaze that travels on Indie Rock tracks, everything becomes dazzling with the guitar progression able to take us towards a run inside the celestial perimeter. 



Fast-paced and compact, this Ep demonstrates the versatility of talents that blunt the typical clichés of musical genres which seem to have run out of imagination. 

This band opposes it: the variables they have at their disposal make them effervescent and, as they show the cards of their talent, we find ourselves smiling and fully immersed amidst joy and merriment.
