Costa Rica: a distant stone, with wrinkled skin but a smooth soul that allows life to reside, completely. And where death is a mystery to be closely observed. What better way than to write songs that probe it, take it into the territories of conscious connections and consequent turmoil?

There are four of them, full of Deathrock in their hearts and attitudes, in their spasms and in their desire to live and administer blackness, chaos, to produce it in their turn, warriors without a trace of fear in their grooves, so bleak but clear at the same time: six darts and six chances to understand that there is no country in the world that is devoid of these snowy cells of darkness, the season of winter in those parts seems even more difficult than ours. And it is wailing guitar, portentous bass, drums like a jackal and the voice like a vial evaporating in the mind. 

The old scribe lights up a nightmare and caresses it: Angustia Espiritual remain the pleasure of a slow crime in his mind corrupted by the beauty of the boys from San José and it's time you shared it with him...

Costa Rica: una pietra lontana, con la pelle rugosa ma con un'anima liscia che permette alla vita di risiedere, completamente. E dove la morte è un mistero da osservare da vicino. Quale modo migliore se non quello di scrivere canzoni che la sondino, la portino nei territori di consapevoli connessioni e conseguenti tumulti?

Sono in quattro, pieni di Deathrock nel cuore e nelle attitudini, negli spasmi e nel desiderio di vivere e amministrare il nero, il caos, di produrne a loro volta, guerrieri senza tracce di paura nel loro solchi così tetri ma chiari al contempo: sei dardi e sei occasioni per capire che non c'è Paese al mondo che sia privo di queste cellule innevate di oscurità, la stagione dell'inverno da quelle parti sembra addirittura più difficile della nostra. Ed è chitarra lamento, basso portentoso, batteria come uno sciacallo e la voce come una fiala che evapora nella mente. 

Il vecchio scriba si accende un incubo e lo accarezza: Angustia Espiritual è il piacere di un lento delitto nella sua mente corrotta dalla bellezza dei ragazzi di San José ed è tempo che lo condividiate con lui...

Fearing - Shadows

Oakland has been the capital of Postpunk and Deathrock for years.

In the case of Fearing, we have a band that knows how to combine the lessons of Postpunk and Gothic Rock, a difficult and dangerous task.

Homogeneous mixtures show themselves with a wealth of ideas and powerful technique, giving their ten malignant compositions an irresistible charm: they create an addictive cinematic mode that leads one to see their steps offend the earth we don't even look at. They do, however, and manage to bring the dust they trample into these songs, mothers and daughters of a bleak predisposition to annihilate dreams. 

A resounding debut, which draws an absolute certainty into our lives: this union of musical genres is a form of abandonment that ravages the arteries, it may be because of guitars with salt on the strings, it may be because of a bass that offends life and tribal and blasphemous drumming, but in the end we will be buried by black beauty...

Oakland è la capitale del Postpunk e del Deathrock da anni.

Nel caso dei Fearing, abbiamo una band che sa coniugare la lezione del Postpunk e del Gothic Rock, operazione difficile e pericolosa.

Miscele omogenee si mostrano con una ricchezza di idee e tecnica poderosa, dando alle dieci maligne composizioni un fascino irresistibile: crea dipendenza una modalità cinematografica che conduce a vedere i loro passi offendere la terra a cui noi non volgiamo nemmeno lo sguardo. Loro lo fanno, invece, e riescono a portare la polvere che calpestano dentro queste canzoni, madri e figlie di una tetra predisposizione ad annientare i sogni. 

Un debutto clamoroso, che disegna nelle nostre vite una sicurezza assoluta: questa unione di generi musicali è una forma di abbandono che sconquassa le arterie, sarà per via di chitarre con il sale sulle corde, sarà per un basso che offende la vita e per un drumming tribale e blasfemo, ma alla fine saremo sepolti dalla bellezza nera…

Damien Hearse - Pro Life Death Camp

Feel like becoming stern muscles that sweep away the filth of rhetoric? Yes?

Good.

Then you are in the right notes, in the pleasurable delirium of Mr. Damien Hearse, a pirate of mixtures, a robot educated in perseverance, a mechanical pupil, who knows how to bring cadaveric gothic need inside electronic chips, with his Synth-Punk of clear North American origin, but then it is all a whirlwind of Post-Punk, Industrial and Goth impulses that have more than one contact with the European continent. Impetuous, majestic and capable, he writes songs like electric shocks to the ears, not failing to sprinkle some of that melody that saves the auditory system. His talent is unquestionable: wild is the propensity, professional is the ability to amalgamate the various shoots in an area that should not be one of comfort but of challenge. 

Take Stay Low, for example, and you will be under the wild flames of the voice that like scrap iron will crush your resistance, while the musical structure takes us back to Belgium, the malignant one of the 90s. Almost Ebm-like shivers plunge into an amazing synth skeleton.

All compositions are worthy of investigation, forays, to experience the thrill of getting lost without reticence...

Avete voglia di divenire muscoli severi che spazzano via la sporcizia della retorica? Sì?

Bene.

Allora siete nelle note giuste, nel piacevole delirio di Mr. Damien Hearse, un pirata delle miscelazioni, un robot educato alla perseveranza, alunno meccanico, che sa portare il bisogno cadaverico gotico dentro i chip elettronici, con il suo Synth-Punk di chiara provenienza nord americana, ma poi è tutto una girandola di impulsi Post-Punk, Industrial e Goth che hanno più di un contatto con il continente europeo. Impetuoso, maestoso e capace, scrive canzoni come scariche elettriche sulle orecchie, non mancando di spruzzare un po’ di quella melodia che salva l’apparato uditivo. Il suo talento è indiscutibile: selvaggia è la propensione, professionale è la capacità di amalgamare i vari germogli in una zona che non deve essere di conforto bensì di sfida. 

Prendete per esempio Stay Low e sarete sotto le fiamme selvatiche della voce che come ferraglia schiaccerà le vostre resistenze, mentre la struttura musicale ci riporta in Belgio, quello maligno degli anni ’90. Brividi quasi Ebm si tuffano dentro uno scheletro synth stupefacente.

Tutte le composizioni sono meritevoli di indagini, incursioni, per provare il brivido del perdersi senza reticenza…

Cassettes: so lacking in sound quality but full of magic, simple to use and so easy to break, mystery and infinite joy that they have characterised the days of more than a generation.

In September 1989, one arrived in the newsroom: In Fact, by Swedish band Art Fact, and it was love at first listen, I wrote about it and was delighted. Today I decided to listen to this album again and talk a little about it.

Considering where the band came from, in that fertile period then, it seemed really hallucinating and surprising that a musical reality of that specific genre could exist in that place in the world.

Stockholm has loved Synth, ever since the 1970s, and in the late 1980s, the city's scene reinforced the need to push forward the Belgian and Francophone scenes. The trio, very young but already experienced, set out to create the idea of a more gradual, less extremist sweep than other bands in the Swedish capital. The result is a bundle of thought-provoking, danceable pieces, with a well-pronounced English vocal, fragments of electronics that would be developed by other bands shortly afterwards. In Fact makes it very clear where multiple elements can be found in compositions and how lightness sometimes needs to be exposed. A real hidden gem.

Le musicassette: così prive di qualità sonora ma pregne di magia, semplici da usare e facilissime da rompere, mistero e gioia infinita che hanno caratterizzato le giornate di più di una generazione.

Nel settembre del 1989 ne arrivò una in redazione: In Fact, degli svedesi Art Fact e fu amore a primo ascolto, ne scrissi e ne fui felicissimo. Oggi ho deciso di riascoltare questo album e di parlarne un poco.

Considerata la provenienza della band, in quel periodo così fertile poi, sembrava davvero allucinante e sorprendente che potesse esistere una realtà musicale di quello specifico genere in quel luogo del mondo.

Stoccolma adora i Synth, sin dagli anni ’70, e nel finire degli '80 la scena della città rinforzò la necessità di portare avanti quella Belga e quella Francofona. Il trio, giovanissimo ma già esperto, si mise a creare l’idea di una perlustrazione più graduale, meno estremista rispetto ad altre formazioni della capitale svedese. Il risultato è un fascio di pezzi che fanno riflettere ballando, con un cantato in inglese dalla buona pronuncia, frammenti di elettronica che saranno poi sviluppati da altri gruppi di lì a poco. In Fact fa capire molto bene dove si possano trovare elementi multipli nelle composizioni e come la leggerezza a volte debba essere esposta. Un vero gioiello nascosto.

My Review: Depresion Radikal - Depresion Radikal

Totally wrapped up in and involved in the lucid damage assessment of anger mixed with depression, Argentines DR, from Buenos Aires, are hopeful fools to whom the old scribe entrusts all his confidence for a career continuation, because we should all need the truth that wants to see itself legitimised.

Three tracks, three different ways of following a frighteningly precise path within the apparently moderate incandescence of depression. The scalpel is an acid and fast blade (Latigo), which between electro punk and Coldwave torments the listener with a crazy and upset dance. When it is the turn of the song that gives its name to the band and to the Ep, one enters with more mystery in the veins, a darker but really precious visit: games of singing bordering on hysteria, but with the low register of the voice. Magnificent.

Discomania concludes the lot, bringing splinters of Kraftwerk and Front 242 to the Argentine capital, and it is apotheosis from the electronic core, something that couples the ancient and the modern in a gloomy and cathartic marriage.

A majestic ep, not to be missed in your discography.

Totalmente avvolti e coinvolti dalla lucida verifica dei danni della rabbia miscelata alla depressione, gli Argentini DR, da Buenos Aires, sono dei pazzi dalle belle speranze e ai quali il vecchio scriba affida tutta la sua fiducia per un proseguo della carriera, perché tutti dovremmo avere bisogno della verità che vuole vedere legittimata se stessa.

Tre brani, tre modalità diverse di compiere un percorso spaventosamente preciso dentro le incandescenze apparentemente moderate della depressione. Il bisturi è una lama acida e veloce (Latigo), che tra electro punk e Coldwave tormenta l’ascolto con una danza pazza e sconvolta. Quando tocca alla canzone che dà il nome alla band e all’Ep, si entra con più mistero nelle vene, una visita più cupa ma davvero preziosa: giochi del cantato al limite della isteria, ma con il registro della voce basso. Magnifica.

Conclude il lotto Discomania che porta schegge di Kraftwerk e Front 242 nella capitale Argentina, ed è apoteosi dal nucleo elettronico, qualcosa che accoppia l’antico e il moderno in un matrimonio tetro e catartico.

Ep maestoso, che non deve mancare nella vostra discografia.
