La mia Recensione: Ethica - Aether

Ethica - Aether

My Review: Ethica - Aether

Ethica - Aether

Let us take the mind and bring it to the Russian glacier, where clouds are harmonious advancing silences, and space a collector of musical textures in search of a mental airport. The passport we need must testify to our ability to separate reality and the dreamlike polar circle, with the latter as the sole interest, the protagonist of our engagement. We are here to talk about a band capable of performing miracles, pressing history and making it become a vast meadow on the bare skin of ice. Intense textures, engaging rhythms and soaring guitars are the foundation on which a voice that is the daughter of enchanting angels is based. They come from Nizhny Novgorod, a city in the heart of central Russia, and it could not be otherwise as everything vibrates within such a needy organ and their sound creatures come from there. They are brushstrokes of lively interactions with the dominant transport of music that changes the reality of gravity to separate us from the everyday and sit next to the sound. Shoegaze and dream pop epicenters allow the participation of a pop educated to containment, yet managing to generate involvement: a rare affair, the surprise in noticing vertices and oscillations kissing to make these eight songs become heavenly rivers. What sends pleasant shivers running is the band's willingness to create continuous weaves, within clear stylistic trajectories but always willing to not necessarily want to limit their work in one musical genre. And so we often find ourselves with the feeling of listening to a myriad of references that seem to want to escape recognition, to find the system of a different and respected identity. An intense, fast, dreamy and deep album, with arpeggios, snaps, fluorescent trails to make us smile, tenderize, dance and then deliver us, as a regal gift, the feeling of having seen the rain become a collection of kisses and hugs. If their propensity to connect the 1990s to the present day is tangible, equally visible is their mental factory determined to seek out arrangements (once one might have assumed the word arrangements) to leave the songs free to follow impulses far from the restrictive confines of styles and genres that would stifle these impulses that are by no means adolescent. The sound reveals a connection to the world, an inhabiting of distance from the country of origin that perhaps does not like this European-American contamination. They might even come from a planet illuminated by an unquestionable state of grace. Fresh, talented, these boys write a letter to the Goddess of Beauty: songs like a soul kiss to a world that has forgotten to dream...

La mia Recensione: Livinroom - Disaster

 Livinroom - Disaster

My Review: Livinroom - Disaster

Livinroom - Disaster

St Petersburg is the new Darkwave Mecca: no doubts, just love, like that for a satin dress on a spring windy day. The Russian line-up releases four swords, wounding nostalgia, creating the possibility of remaining faithful to old musical genres only to see them transformed. New possibilities swell the chest, and you feel addicted to a freshness, while sadness drags you to move your feet, in a circular way, as an ally of a force that forces you to be happy...

And, the moment Coldwave and Post-Punk appear, the smile drools like black lipstick. When the music you listen to makes you close in on yourself with your headphones, you know you've won because only those notes go through your head. Staggering rhythms, syncopations, stop-and-go, guitars stuttering, the bass stitching the rhythm on those melodic trails: we found a voice similar to that of the singer of Cerulean Veins, less sensual, colder, I would say perfect for these heavy-hearted igloos...

My Review: Культодиночества - м е л а н х о л и я

Moscow creates something beautiful, always, at least in music: there are no volatile bullets in that field of life, but rather operational cores of fast and refined grey clouds, blotting papers of that Post-Punk that was born far away from the Russian capital.

A song, a downpour of bouncing guitars and a bass liturgically linked to that musical tradition, for a truly intriguing result, which annexes a voice that seems to come out of a strangely sad but enchanting sunbeam, full of reverberation and an echo that bewitches and leads to a dreamlike plane in which there is no joy, not even there.

Wonderful!

My Review: Gorodki - Vampire

 Gorodki - Vampire

A dip in the icy waters allows a much faster recovery from fatigue. And given the weight of our efforts, we go for the river Dnepr, in Smolensk, in the Russia you expect capable of performing miracles. The Gorodki project seems perfect to me: we are in the presence of a four-song Ep (The Perfect Girl was the previous single) that knows how to purify our minds by throwing them into the waves now made solid by the cold. The right place to enjoy gothic atmospheres through an excellent performance of that Darkwave that seems to live a second youth in Russia. With vocals that sound as if they were trapped in a freezer and guitars as if they were covered in watered-down wool, the songs deal a heavy blow to the belief that certain arpeggios have exhausted their evocative power: everyone should take a trip south of Moscow...

In a Lonely Place - Reflection

In a Lonely Place - Reflection

The old scribe never lacks the urge to take a few steps into the Muscovite universe, the European capital of Post-Punk, the one that knows how to detach itself from its origins in order to sweep through blood-red clouds stained with grey.

Such is the case with Mikhail Omelchuck: the sole member of this stellar project, a spokesman for oblique flashes, bass strokes like sabre-rattling, dry drumming, his voice like a diamond falling on skin. Reflection is an electric splinter without peace, because the guitar that enters at a certain point splits the sky: on one side the 80s Darkwave bowing helplessly and on the other his own, wielded like a dagger that cuts and leaves, without any care to look at the effect created. Toxic, perverse, hypnotic and chaotic, the song is gothically addictive, the smile tilts to the floor and you dance like terrified but healthy ants: long live Mikhail!

In a Lonely Place - Reflection

My Review: Otchim - Reves Brisees

 Otchim - Reves Brises

What have we got, old scribe?
A Russian and a Frenchman: Anton Berezin and Jordi, from St Petersburg and Paris, in a project called Otchim, now in its fourth work, the second for the prestigious Label Sierpien Records.
Seven hypnotic souls encircle us between Kraftwerk, Robots, D.A.F. and more, for a temporal journey that lands at the end of the 1970s and starts again at the end of 1983. Everything is there, deposited, certified.
But then a sprinkling of contemporaneity is needed, and the duo inserts it perfectly, like splinterless cylinders, with unquestionable precision.
First of all, the soul: Post-Punk, but without overt displays, because it is kept hidden, inside notes on which electronic attitudes are placed, in which Coldwave and Synthwave play the game, in a splendid draw.
Their undoubted ability is to bring dance into a conscious space, where utility cannot be stopped by fun. Here, then, the seriousness of this record consists of microchips activated to make us become thoughts hired by them to find physicality. A miracle, and it is worth emphasising this. Jordi's singing in French offers romantic feather cells that cannot be deprived of Anton's Sarmatian bassoman, in which he lives the discipline and rigidity that blocks the music beautifully, not allowing it too much sentimentality.

Simply a dutiful and enjoyable album awaits you: don't hesitate...

 Otchim - Reves Brisees

Cosa abbiamo, vecchio scriba?
