 Second Layer - Courts Or Wars

Londra ci ha chiamato e quella volta non si poteva scappare: quella band ha scritto un album assolutamente capace di portarci nelle sue derive Post-Punk, allucinate e abbagliate da artefizi che comprendono l’elettronica selvaggia e un impianto gotico per scurire i pensieri, con l’atteggiamento Industrial senza lasciarne troppo evidenti le tracce, in un gioco perfetto di equilibri. Ma sapete la cosa più importante? Era il 1979, poi anche il 1980, ed era un gruppo composto da Adrian Borland e Graham Bailey, che contemporaneamente hanno iniziato a scrivere le pagine della storia dei Sound. 

Ma questo insieme è maestoso, un portale di novità assolute, perfezionando il Post-Punk che in quei mesi scoppiava nelle vene degli artisti di mezzo mondo. Calibrato, vulcanico, spigoloso, è un duello continuo tra le chitarre e il basso, che prendono l’apparato uditivo e lo educano al mistero e alla forza. Quei due non avrebbero mai più composto  brani così taglienti, disturbanti, come cubetti di ghiaccio lanciati violentemente nella stiva della nave del rock. Minimalista, convulso, con l’intenzione di scandagliare possibili movimenti alienanti, il tutto soffoca in generosità, sviluppando il sentimento della paura dalla faccia pulita. Undici episodi, un barcollare più dentro la scena più di Sheffield che in quella di Londra, in cui i ritmi conoscono accelerazioni e l'emergenza delle parole si trasferisce sulle note per un lavoro crepuscolare ma ribelle, nel mare magnifico di contraddizioni odoranti di perfezione.

Amaro, ribelle, con lampi continui di genialità non trattenibile, Courts or Wars è il manifesto della bellezza che graffia il futuro…

 Second Layer - Courts Or Wars

London called us and that time there was no escaping it: that band wrote an album absolutely capable of taking us into its Post-Punk drifts, hallucinated and dazzled by artefacts that include wild electronics and a gothic implant to darken the thoughts, with an Industrial attitude without leaving too obvious a trace, in a perfect game of balances. But you know the most important thing? It was 1979, then also 1980, and it was a band made up of Adrian Borland and Graham Bailey, who simultaneously began to write the pages of Sound history. 

But this ensemble is majestic, a portal to absolute novelty, perfecting the Post-Punk that was bursting through the veins of artists halfway around the world in those months. Calibrated, volcanic, angular, it is a continuous duel between the guitars and the bass, taking the auditory apparatus and educating it in mystery and force. Those two would never again compose such sharp, disturbing tracks, like ice cubes thrown violently into the hold of the rock ship. Minimalist, convulsive, with the intention of sounding out possible alienating movements, it all suffuses in generosity, developing the feeling of fear from a clean face. Eleven episodes, a staggering more in the Sheffield scene than in the London one, in which rhythms know accelerations and the emergence of words moves to the notes for a crepuscular but rebellious work, in the magnificent sea of contradictions smelling of perfection.

Bitter, rebellious, with continuous flashes of uncontainable genius, Courts or Wars is the manifesto of beauty that scratches the future...
