October Dogs - The Cusp Of Beauty
Peace can come from listening, from stopping every rush of omnipresence, from pausing the belief that life is just an expression of always doing something.
Then you come across the Texans' album and everything seems like an unexpected revelation. In addition to this unavoidable premise, there is a particular joy, strange but effective, in this incredible web of musical modality that makes genres merely the branch of its own needs. Everything becomes a pretext, a means, the system for bringing something elevated into these compositions that prove to be masters of embraces, of crosses, of sowing the future.
It is wonderful to lose your compass and feel pleasantly lost: you do not know what you are listening to (given, precisely, this criterion of mixing genres), but you find yourself enveloped and involved, between mystery and unbridled joy. The feeling is that there are waves in the sky (Dream Pop often hovers), in a traffic jam of cars with beams of Alternative and the tyres with a lo-fi camouflaged very well by Indie Pop.
The voice is perpetually under a linen sheet, ready to come out but preferring not to show its face and aligning itself with the music so that everything is balanced. We are sure that these stylistic oscillations were born to reveal, to amaze, to take us into a situation that becomes dreamlike and often instead represents the rocking in which we can still allow ourselves childhood.
The Cusp Of Beauty is a marvellous example of how the state of health of music is excellent, flourishing, with veins open and capable of creating infinite perceptive fluids: you don't need a masterpiece to uncork a bottle of champagne, but rest assured that we are in front of a marvellously intense work that knows how to anticipate the future.
They are a bet of the old scribe these guys....
