My Review: Laveda - Clean

 Laveda - Clean

The New York duo's second album is finally arriving in April, and the single that anticipates the release already gives us smiles and the desire to embrace the days, especially the bad ones, because these guys have energy and the desire to cross the dark areas of life with their blend of Twee-Pop, Dreampop, Alternative and Jangle Pop, making us rivers of clear water.

Clean is a heartbeat along the crowded streets of New York, between guitars smelling of Sarah Records and atmospheres that make us dance, while the lyrics convey confidence in the future even if there are recent scars. 

F*** is a trip into the lofty writing of Ali Genevich and Jake Brooks (who also feature Joe Taurone on drums and Dan Carr on bass on the album), with a display of guitars tuned to the sky and Ali's voice swimming in the eyes of the purest melody.

Surprise is more rhythmic, sturdy, with '90s Indie Pop echoes that make us jump to our feet to dance with this adrenaline rush cleverly contained within flights that know all too well the power of an up and down rollercoaster.

All you have to do is turn on the optimism and you will find with these three songs one more reason to do so...

La mia Recensione: Laveda - Clean

Finalmente sta per arrivare, ad Aprile, il secondo disco del duo Newyorkese, e il singolo che anticipa l’uscita ci dona già sorrisi e la voglia di abbracciare le giornate, soprattutto quelle storte, perchè questi ragazzi hanno energia e il desiderio di attraversare le zone buie del vivere con la loro miscela di Twee-Pop, Dreampop, Alternative e Jangle Pop, rendendoci fiumi di acqua limpida.

Clean è un battito di cuore lungo le strade affollate di New York, tra chitarre in odore di Sarah Records e atmosfere che ci fanno danzare, mentre il testo trasmette fiducia nel futuro anche se esistono cicatrici recenti. 

F*** è una gita dentro l’elevata scrittura di Ali Genevich e Jake Brooks (che nell’album integrano anche Joe Taurone alla batteria  e Dan Carr al basso), per una esibizione di chitarre accordate con il cielo e la voce di Ali che nuota negli occhi della melodia più pura.

Surprise è più ritmica, robusta, con echi Indie Pop degli anni ’90 che ci fanno scattare in piedi per danzare con questa scarica adrenalinica sapientemente contenuta dentro voli che conoscono benissimo il potere del saliscendi delle montagne russe.

Non vi resta che accendere l’ottimismo e troverete con queste tre canzoni un motivo in più per farlo…

CRUSHED - extra life

Flashes of euphoria from sunny Los Angeles, in sturdy display for listening that becomes magnetic and impressive, with a remarkable ability on the part of the two band members to probe, experiment and assemble multiple approaches, perfectly united under the label 'songs to make you dream dancing'.

It only takes six tracks to swim through the appendages of the 90s with an effective dusting, to remove some lumps and replace them with almost invisible electronic scores. The lyrics move from relationship difficulties, to drug use, to romantic moments walking down the street of life, to the realisation of necessary new languages, to dreams. Bre Morell and Shaun Durkan sound like American apostles of The Sundays, but they also do not forget to look inside the cosy home of Curve, for a form of expression that allows itself the luxury of stepping out of Dreampop and Shoegaze in order to fill the compositions with Trip Hop ingredients that definitely conquer.

Bedside is the EP's high point, for a deep yet dreamy lyric and a musical attitude that may remind us of Alanis Morissette embracing Natalie Imbruglia. 

But it is with Respawn that the old scribe realises that the duo's pop nature is deadly simple and effervescent. Nothing to add except that our days would also need compositions like these, because in the end we would find ourselves with an extra splendid smile...

 CRUSHED - extra life

Lampi di euforia dalla solare Los Angeles, in robusta esposizione per ascolti che si fanno magnetici e impressionanti, con un’abilità notevole da parte dei due membri della band di sondare, sperimentare e assemblare approcci multipli, perfettamente uniti sotto la dicitura “canzoni per far sognare danzando”.

Bastano sei tracce per nuotare nelle appendici degli anni ’90 con una spolverata efficace, per togliere alcuni grumi e sostituirli con quasi invisibili partiture elettroniche. I testi passano dalla difficoltà di coppia, all’uso delle droghe, ai momenti romantici passeggiando nella strada della vita, alla constatazione di nuovi linguaggi necessari, ai sogni. Bre Morell e Shaun Durkan sembrano apostoli americani dei The Sundays ma non dimenticano anche di guardare dentro la casa accogliente dei Curve, per una forma espressiva che si concede il lusso di uscire dal Dreampop e dallo Shoegaze per poter riempire le composizioni di ingredienti Trip Hop che conquistano definitivamente.

Bedside è il momento più elevato dell’EP, per un testo profondo ma al contempo sognante e un’attitudine musicale che ci può ricordare Alanis Morissette mentre abbraccia Natalie Imbruglia. 

Ma è con Respawn che il vecchio scriba capisce che la natura pop del duo è micidiale per semplicità ed effervescenza. Nulla da aggiungere se non che le nostre giornate avrebbero bisogno anche di composizioni come queste, perchè alla fine ci troveremmo con uno splendido sorriso in più…

My Review: VAZUM - The Precious One

 VAZUM - The Precious One

But how much are musical couples to be adored, swaggering, intolerant of sterile communion and intent on looking at each other and digging into each other to put darkness in the dark? Let it be darkness then, of the revised and sick, cobalt-filled and wrenching guitars, because dead Christian Death (tell me, without Rozz Williams, was that a band??) and waiting for Altar de Fey, here we must have music that scratches the veins properly.

The Ep of which the scribe speaks is the overflowing circus of Horror Rock that tries to handcuff Deathrock: failing, both musical genres have won, as the three songs are a working, devilish hybrid. 

Here, the sickness of life finds a revolver to shoot itself in the ankles: perhaps it is enough not to walk to find relief, and the two voices, especially Emily Sturm's, the few times she appears, manage to make one believe that laments can be pleasant. For his part, the band's real vocalist, Zach Pliska, is a black diamond from Detroit, devoted to giving intensity to the interpretations, overloading, rightly so, the nervous avalanche of sublimely cut guitars.

To be had: nothing to add.

La mia Recensione: VAZUM - The Precious One

 VAZUM - The Precious One

Ma quanto sono da adorare le coppie musicali, spavalde, intolleranti nei confronti della comunione sterile e intente a guardarsi e a scavare nell’altro per mettere buio al buio? Che sia tenebra allora, di quella rivista e malata, piena di cobalto e di chitarre strazianti, perché morti i Christian Death (ditemi, senza Rozz Williams, quella era una band???) e in attesa degli Altar de Fey, qui bisogna avere musica che gratta le vene per bene.

L’Ep di cui vi parla lo scriba è lo straripante circo dell’Horror Rock e che cerca di ammanettare il Deathrock: fallendo, hanno vinto entrambi i generi musicali, in quanto le tre canzoni sono un ibrido funzionante e diabolico. 

Qui la malattia della vita trova una rivoltella per spararsi alle caviglie: forse basta non camminare per trovare sollievo, e le due voci, soprattutto quella di Emily Sturm, le poche volte che si affaccia, riescono a far maturare la convinzione che i lamenti possano essere piacevoli. Dal canto suo, il vero cantante della band, Zach Pliska, è un diamante nero di Detroit, votato a dare intensità alle interpretazioni, sovraccaricando, giustamente, la valanga nervosa di chitarre dai tagli sublimi.

Da avere: nulla da aggiungere.

My Review: Nass//zuruck - TENSIONS

Nass//zuruck - TENSIONS

My God how beauty hurts, at least the beauty that is unrolled within the thirty-five minutes of TENSIONS, an erupting volcano that engulfs Los Angeles through the lava of its prodigy sons named Nass//zuruck, in the bustle of sound traffic, notes fired not blankly at the temples, in a robust gothic novel, perverse and hallucinated. A train, with Synthwave TNT loaded on board, rushes out of the small Californian town to carry the word and the backbone of its musical turmoil along the perimeter of madness, ensuring that no part of the world can be spared. Fast-paced, the tracks take our breath away and draw a bruising circuit, as our bodies slam into thoughts made slippery and unable to sustain the pressing rhythm on display. Blades of American post-punk show how they have nothing to fear when compared to their European counterparts: it's guerrilla warfare, it's a land of conquest for these guys who know how to be as brave as Marines having landed on our uncertainties. The sound is compact, heavy, lunar in the reddish days, it knows how to incorporate study and technique, and it is indisputable that it all sounds like an escape from the present.

Like modern Attila, they sweep away history to conquer at least their own, and all that remains is for us to be struck by their cerebral machinations that know how to extend to the physical, turning our bodies into wet rags...
