 IAMTHESHADOW - The Wide Starlight

La classe, la Dea misteriosa che non pesca mai a caso, benedice chi la riceve e invita a usarla, a scrutarne l’essenza e aggiungerci del proprio per aumentarne le dimensioni.

Pedro Code non fa altro che eseguire tutto questo, portando la sua creatura IAMTHESHADOW nella zona della perfezione con l’ultimo album della band portoghese che è coraggioso, profondo, con le dodici canzoni che sono tutte baci con il rossetto nero e il binocolo che ci fa vedere da lontano i particolari dell’animo umano. Ascoltandole qualcosa nella mente si accende e si capisce che solo nel buio dell’anima si possa vedere cosa serve per davvero in questa esistenza. La crescita del gruppo è vistosa, tutto è compatto e levigato, le lacrime che cadono sono vestite di un gusto non troppo amaro: Pedro ha calibrato perfettamente i gusti e ha dato alla Darkwave il compito di essere gentile. In realtà si nuota dentro concetti che non possono essere relegati a definizioni musicali. Ovviamente esistono allacciamenti a branche di questo genere, ma è l’ultima delle cose su cui mettere l’accento.

Ciò che conquista è che non ci sono sconti: tutto è crudo e reale, ma posto con una decadenza brillante che porta ad accettare questo vento grigio che sfiora la pelle. 

Un concept sonoro perché tutto suona come una lunga traccia, un racconto sulle illusioni e i tumulti interiori con quei desideri consapevoli nei confronti di ciò che è possibile e di cosa non lo è.

In tutto questo la musica strega: sposata ai testi, diventa una montagna che abbraccia il mare in una stretta gotica ma accessibile anche a chi non ha questo genere musicale tra i preferiti. E anche questo è un miracolo che vive dentro questo disco, un riassunto perfetto del cammino compiuto negli anni, la capacità di offrire qualcosa di diverso e la certezza che Pedro sappia come istruire la progettualità del lavoro per coniugarla al talento.

Le chitarre sono accenni di raggi, mai presuntuose, mai violente, sempre delicate, con un sorriso che tende verso il basso, dove le zone di cupezza sono appese ai lati. I synth sono i pittori del progetto, ingegneri del suono e maestri di melodie semplici e quindi umane, credibili, dove è il concetto che guida le dita a creare linee che avvolgono in un ascolto caldo. Il basso, sempre potente, è un guardiano attento, viaggia dagli anni ’80 ed è esperto, sostiene le canzoni quasi con maggior forza rispetto agli altri lavori.

Quì tutto ammalia, conquista, e gli ascolti si fanno intensi e numerosi, perché avere il bisogno di ripeterli questa volta non è dato dal piacere bensì dalla necessità. Ecco: IAMTHESHADOW produce qualcosa di vero e l’applauso diventa un nuovo play…

 IAMTHESHADOW - The Wide Starlight

Class, the mysterious Goddess who never picks at random, blesses those who receive it and invites them to use it, to scrutinise its essence and add something of themselves to increase its dimensions.

Pedro Code does nothing more than accomplish all of this, taking his creature IAMTHESHADOW into the zone of perfection with the Portuguese band's latest album, which is bold, profound, with its twelve songs that are all kisses with black lipstick and binoculars that let us see the details of the human soul from afar. Listening to them, something in the mind lights up and you realise that only in the darkness of the soul  you can see what you really need in this existence. The growth of the band is noticeable, everything is compact and smooth, the tears that fall are dressed in a not too bitter taste: Pedro has calibrated the tastes perfectly and given Darkwave the task of being gentle. In reality, one swims within concepts that cannot be relegated to musical definitions. Of course there are connections to branches of this genre, but that is the least of the things to emphasise.

What conquers is that there are no discounts: everything is rough and real, but placed with a brilliant decadence that leads one to accept this grey wind that brushes against the skin. 

A sonic concept because everything sounds like one long track, a tale about illusions and inner turmoil with those conscious desires about what is possible and what is not.

In all of this, the music bewitches: married to the lyrics, it becomes a mountain that embraces the sea in a gothic grip but is also accessible to those who do not have this genre of music among their favourites. And this, too, is a miracle that lives inside this record, a perfect summary of the path taken over the years, the ability to offer something different and the certainty that Pedro knows how to instruct the work to combine it with talent.

The guitars are hints of rays, never boastful, never violent, always delicate, with a smile that tends downwards, where areas of gloom hang on the sides. The synths are the painters of the project, sound engineers and masters of simple and therefore human and believable melodies, where it is the concept that guides the fingers to create lines that wrap around a warm listening experience. The bass, always powerful, is a careful guardian, travelling from the 80s and experienced, supporting the songs almost more strongly than in other works.

Here, everything charms, seduces and our listening becomes intense and numerous, because the need to repeat it this time is not from pleasure but from necessity. Here: IAMTHESHADOW produces something real and the applause turns into a new play...

La mia Recensione: Dead Myth - Shores

Dead Myth - Shores

Tre normanni di istanza a Parigi, artefici di una canzone meravigliosa come Love Awakts, dall’Ep #1, arriva all’Lp Shores con dosi massicce di garage psichedelico, noise e spiragli di luce Shoegaze per un risultato che gratta e graffia il cuore con devastanti incursioni piene di acidi e sparatorie sonore, un incubo che conosce e si appropria di trame melodiche in frenetiche agitazioni motorie. A tratti si evidenziano fascinazioni  Rockabilly che ispessiscono i territori delle loro scorribande. Come dei  New Model Army dall’accento francese, con legami evidenti con una ricerca sonora che guarda alla Germania e che ridefinisce la spettacolare nuova stagione alternativa Francese, questo disco è un miracolo vista la fatica che molte band compiono nell’agglomerare stili musicali e periodi diversi. Loro ci riescono benissimo diventando una eccellenza, una novità da cui apprendere. Il rumore qui è una donna spavalda, elegante ma sempre potente nel creare gittate di fango, dove sporcarsi è un privilegio. Fate posto all’intelligenza: ascoltate questo album e la stagione del tumulto splenderà dentro il vostro stupore…

 Dead Myth - Shores

Three Normans stationed in Paris, creators of a marvellous song like Love Awakts, from Ep #1, arrive to the Lp Shores with massive doses of psychedelic garage, noise and glimmers of shoegaze light for a result that scratches and scrapes the heart with devastating acid-filled incursions and sonic gunfire, a nightmare that knows and takes possession of melodic textures in frenetic motor agitations. At times there are Rockabilly fascinations that thicken the territories of their raids. Like New Model Army with a French accent, with obvious links to a sound research that looks to Germany and redefines the spectacular new French alternative season, this record is a miracle given the effort that many bands make in agglomerating different musical styles and periods. They succeed very well, becoming an excellence, a novelty from which to learn. Noise here is a swaggering woman, elegant but always powerful in creating mudslides, where getting dirty is a privilege. Please make room for intelligence: listen to this album and the season of turmoil will shine inside your amazement…

 TTSSFU - Remember

My beloved Manchester remembers a not so distant past and returns to ride an Alternative wave with Shoegaze stains, reviving an association between musical genres that have many points of contact. An amazing single that brings linen cloths to thoughts and caresses bodies, a collaboration with tenderness that makes the traffic of gloomy souls clearer, since these guys are messengers of goodness and with their superfine class induce new expansions, of calm and respect. A simple but sprawling bass line, coupled with a guitar that does the same, gives magic and lightness. One dreams of a better world and the song is already capable of creating it: Manchester, please welcome these children as a necessary redemption after years of grey because we all need it…

La mia Recensione: TTSSFU - Remember

 TTSSFU - Remember

La mia adorata Manchester si ricorda di un passato non così lontano e torna a cavalcare un’onda Alternative con macchie Shoegaze, ridando spazio a un sodalizio tra generi musicali che hanno molti punti di contatto. Un singolo strepitoso che porta stoffe di lino nei pensieri e accarezza i corpi, un approccio con la tenerezza che rende il traffico di anime cupe maggiormente sgombro, dal momento che questi ragazzi sono messaggeri di bontà e con la loro classe sopraffina inducono a nuove espansioni, di calma e rispetto. Una linea di basso semplice ma tentacolare, unita a una chitarra che fa lo stesso, regala magia e leggerezza. Si sogna un mondo migliore e il brano è capace già di crearlo: Manchester, accogli questi figli come un riscatto necessario dopo anni di grigio perché ne abbiamo tutti bisogno…

 Nyte Skye - Vanishing

Every new record release is always a moonbeam that envelops the old scribe, but when it is a sunbeam then it jolts him with the noblest flood of feelings he can experience.

The Californian band's album is a collection of colours, attitudes, propensities and qualities that give strength and warmth. The sublime quality of surrounding the mind's day and giving it affection and strength. Songs that suspend oxygen to give poetry, guitars that are placed gently and then go away dynamically without ever offending, always respectful, the bass that is an example of entrancing sensuality (Guided by a Hand), bridges and refrains that mingle, without rules, lively, verses that dilate and make this record blue silk, to be worn in every season. The quartet take their study, their planning and with talent they do more than just mix musical genres: they create their own identity, their own effective style to stir up oscillating vibes capable of creating addiction, of the refined type. Shoegaze particles sewn on intelligent Indie Rock certainly present themselves to the listener, and we have the impression that a progressive spirituality hovers in the work: the songs mutate and deepen sparks of inspiration that the band from San Rafael perfectly indulges. But what reigns supreme is the spirit of Dreampop, which does not need to manifest itself at all because it dominates the scene repeatedly, giving the record that delicacy that literally conquers...
