My Review: Antipole & Paris Alexander - Bleached

 Antipole & Paris Alexander - Bleached 

There is no doubt, listening to this new song, taken from the forthcoming album Crystalline, that the two artists have written an immense circle of beauty, amidst vapours and subtle mysteries, encompassed within talents that know how to develop research.

If we take Bleached, we notice how Paris Alexander's pen and Karl Morten Dahl's hand are one and the same, blinking to create an atmosphere filled with a tamed tension, like an armed stream of consciousness that comes out to make the universe stimulated in welcoming this stalagmite, ingenious and effective, to connect us to an unconscious that must come out of its shell. 

On a Coldwave track with a discreet twinning with the sumptuous Nordic Darkwave, here are guitar and synth sparkles that make the track a sad-eyed meteor without leading to depression but certifying, from Paris Alexander's splendid words, that there is an obvious connection with possession that must be manifested. The guitar is a suffocating dusting of the useless that lurks over the soul: Karl, like a magician who doesn't need words, wiggles his fingers with a sequence of notes that disarm, fascinate, make our mood pleasantly gloomy.  And he knows how to keep only the indispensable active, because of his class that never encompasses what is not needed. For his part, Alexander approaches the microphone with a vocal that contains the right balance, style, effective in making his lyrics become physical, between sighs and a journey towards a baritone mode that suits him. 

If desolation and surrender can be seen, then the song will make them a dance movement, but by the end of the listening, new energy will magically arrive to give you strength...

We are taken, enraptured, conquered and there is no doubt that the two have put together an album that will teach us and give us the bridge between the real and the oneiric, on which we can walk whenever we want...

Non vi sono dubbi, ascoltando questa nuova canzone, tratta dall'imminente album Crystalline, che i due artisti abbiano scritto un immenso circolo di bellezza, tra vapori e sottili misteri, inglobati all’interno di talenti che sanno come sviluppare la ricerca.

Se prendiamo Bleached, notiamo come la penna di Paris Alexander e la mano di Karl Morten Dahl siano un tutt’uno che ammicca a creare un’atmosfera pregna di una tensione addomesticata, come un flusso armato di consapevolezza che esce per rendere l’universo stimolato nell’accoglienza di questa stalagmite, geniale ed efficace, per connetterci a un inconscio che deve uscire dal guscio. 

Su un tracciato Coldwave con un gemellaggio discreto con la sontuosa Darkwave nordica, ecco che scintillii di chitarra e di synth rendono il brano una meteora dagli occhi tristi senza condurre alla depressione ma certificando, dalle splendide parole di Paris Alexander, che esiste un evidente connubio con il possesso che deve essere manifestato. La chitarra è una soffocante spolverata dell’inutile che si apposta sull’anima: Karl, come un mago a cui non servono parole, agita le sue dita con una sequenza di note che disarmano, affascinano, rendono piacevolmente cupo il nostro umore.  E sa come tenere attivo solamente l’indispensabile, per via della sua classe che mai ingloba ciò che non serve. Dal canto suo, Alexander si approccia al microfono con un cantato che contiene il giusto equilibrio, stile, efficace per far diventare fisico il suo testo, tra sospiri e un viaggio verso una modalità baritonale che gli si addice. 

Se la desolazione e l’arrendevolezza possono essere viste, allora ecco che la canzone saprà renderle un movimento di danza ma, alla fine dell’ascolto, arriveranno magicamente delle nuove energie per darvi forze…

Veniamo presi, rapiti, conquistati e non vi è dubbio alcuno che i due abbiano confezionato un album che saprà erudirci e donarci il ponte, tra il vero e l’onirico, su cui camminare ogni volta che lo vorremo…

My Review: Attic Frost - Restless Souls

 Attic Frost - Restless Souls

The Bremen band's album is one of the most eagerly awaited by the old scribe, in this musical year already so full of beauty and validity.

But the title song and its B-side are two cadaverous explosions, with shreds of life dancing the time it takes to draw its last breath. With an ancient ardour, the vehemence of notes that want to extirpate (succeeding) a minimum of serenity, here we find ourselves in a lethal, fascinating space, perfectly in line with the expectations of this band that is a Post-Punk slingshot that teases the Gothic world. There are two tracks: the first (Restless Souls), fast and surgical, tears down and annihilates, through its fiercely pointed drill, with its guitar screeching and killing.

The second, slower (A Pain That We Can Cure), at first sounds like something out of The Cure's Faith, only to be a suffocating sonic dirge within a ferocious drumming and vocals that seem to have been put on acid, in the distance. 

There is no doubt that the long-distance work will celebrate all the talents of this mass of angst-ridden artists, and for this very reason longed for by the old scribe...

 Attic Frost - Restless Souls

L’album della band di Brema è uno dei più attesi dal vecchio scriba, in questo anno musicale già così denso di bellezza e validità.

Ma la canzone che dà il titolo al singolo e la sua B-Side sono due esplosioni cadaveriche, con brandelli di vita che danzano il tempo necessario per esalare l’ultimo respiro. Con un ardore antico, la veemenza di note che vogliono estirpare (riuscendoci) un minimo di serenità, ecco che ci si ritrova in uno spazio letale, affascinante, perfettamente in linea con le aspettative di questo gruppo che è una fionda Post-Punk che stuzzica il mondo gotico. Due brani: il primo (Restless Souls), veloce e chirurgico, abbatte e annienta, attraverso il suo trapano dalla punta feroce, con la chitarra che stride e uccide.

Il secondo, più lento (A pain that we can cure), all’inizio sembra essere uscito da Faith dei Cure, per poi essere una cantilena sonora soffocante all’interno di un drumming ferente e la voce che sembra essere stata messa sotto un acido, in lontananza. 

Non si hanno dubbi circa il fatto che il lavoro a lunga distanza celebrerà tutto il talento di questa massa di artisti dal fare angosciante e proprio per questo desiderati dal vecchio scriba…

 Haunt Me - All Things Turn Grey

Haunt Me are fertile, capable, unstoppable, a magnet that attracts the need to create satellites of vapour-filled notes, in a faithful sound circuit within Post-Punk that is married to the not too exuberant Gothic Rock, establishing a perfect harmony. Three episodes, a succession of quality, addictive frustration and pain that are here pampered by wisdom and the will to cherish it all for eternity. One finds oneself dancing, knowing that nothing will be the same as before: one dives into circular, almost archaic guitars and consequently loaded with references to which we are fond of. This is not a nostalgic operation: you can tell by the singing, the arrangements, the desire to anaesthetise certain clichés that might have made you tired. Instead, we find ourselves celebrating the harmony, the fluidity, the oil running through songs that arouse respect and curiosity. More down-to-earth than some over-celebrated bands of the 1980s, the American combo demonstrates balance and ponderation, for a total beam of gothic light that can warm the head towards stimulating thoughts...

 Haunt Me - All Things Turn Grey

Gli Haunt Me sono fertili, capaci, inarrestabili, un magnete che attrae il bisogno di creare satelliti di note piene di vapore, in un circuito sonoro fedele all’interno del Post-Punk che si trova sposato al Gothic Rock non troppo esuberante, stabilendo un’armonia perfetta. Tre gli episodi, una successione di qualità, di dipendenza dalla frustrazione e dal dolore che qui vengono coccolati dalla sapienza e dalla volontà di custodire il tutto per l’eternità. Ci si ritrova a ballare sapendo che nulla sarà come prima: ci si tuffa in chitarre circolari, quasi arcaiche e conseguentemente cariche di riferimenti a cui siamo affezionati. Non è un’operazione nostalgica: lo capisci dal cantato, dagli arrangiamenti, dal voler anestetizzare alcuni cliché che avrebbero potuto stancare. Ci troviamo invece a celebrare l’armonia, la fluidità, il petrolio che corre dentro brani che suscitano rispetto e curiosità. Più concreto di alcune band troppo celebrate negli anni Ottanta, il combo americano dimostra equilibrio e ponderazione, per un fascio totale di luce gotica che può scaldare la testa verso pensieri ricchi di stimoli…

My Review: Shrouds - Grimoire

 Shrouds - Grimoire

What a positive and liberating flow: the old scribe waited for this album as one waits for days full of joy! And now the latter is well and truly in his veins. A killer work, a sweep that sweeps away so much of the approximation that has been coming out in recent months. Instead, the Californian band decides that it is the intelligence, commitment, study and quality of songs born to become a cave inside our minds that find form and place.

The musical genres present are a gothic rainbow, arms that allow the various currents to create space and make love, in a way where collectivity is the watchword.

The list includes: Post-Punk, Deathrock, Darkwave, the triad that kills the doubts, the false propensities for joy and that can and will still shock, as effect and not cause. A swarm of grievous notes that weigh down the breath and confirm that part of the United States capable of not denying its own DNA: it is a lament at the foot of sacredness, a mass without religion that condemns sins and saves sinners, in a truly astounding moral exercise.

The guitars abound with lamentations, they are swans screaming and flying in the vibrations of the bass, to slip into human disaster. The drumming is a boulder that crumbles nerves and shakes, shakes, shakes until it hurts. One must be predisposed to silence with this artistic design: the woman with the scythe has made a contract and these sonic oscillations are a splendid noose around our necks...

La mia Recensione: Shrouds - Grimoire

 Shrouds - Grimoire

Che flusso positivo e liberatorio: il vecchio scriba attendeva questo album così come si aspettano giornate piene di gioia! E ora quest’ultima è ben collocata dentro le sue vene. Un lavoro micidiale, una scopa che spazza via tanta di quella approssimazione che in questi ultimi mesi sta uscendo. La band Californiana invece decide che sia l’intelligenza, l’impegno, lo studio e la qualità di canzoni nate per divenire una grotta dentro le nostre menti a trovare forma e luogo.

I generi musicali presenti sono un arcobaleno gotico, braccia che consentono alle varie correnti di creare spazio e di fare l’amore, in una modalità in cui la collettività è la parola d’ordine.

L’elenco prevede: Post-Punk, Deathrock, Darkwave, la triade che uccide i dubbi, le false propensioni al gaudio e che può e vuole ancora sconvolgere, come effetto e non come causa. Uno sciame di grevi note che appesantiscono il fiato e confermano quella parte degli Stati Uniti capace di non negare il proprio DNA: è un lamento ai piedi della sacralità, una messa senza religione che condanna i peccati e salva i peccatori, in un esercizio morale davvero stupefacente.

Le chitarre abbondano di lamentele, sono cigni che urlano e volano nelle vibrazioni del basso, per scivolare nel disastro umano. Il drumming è una masso che sbriciola i nervi e scuote, scuote, scuote sino a fare male. Occorre saper essere predisposti al silenzio con questo disegno artistico: la donna con la falce ha stipulato un contratto e queste oscillazioni sonore sono uno splendido cappio al nostro collo…

Songs with a built-in headache seek a hospital, that is, our listening, to be embraced. These are the ones on this extraordinary EP, without a shadow of a doubt the best from the Illinois band, here displaying circus skills, with a spectacular display of qualities that are specified in credibility, in a commitment that shows creations which are able to shake, to stir, to build a place to cherish them.The seeds are Post-Punk, the branches Darkwave, the leaves Coldwave, and the heart is an emotional screen separating sadness from disquiet, for an enchanting time very well spent: delightfully American attitudes meet in a British context, for a victory of compositions that dilate the decomposed structures of our knowledge...

 French Police - Pedaleo Nocturno

Canzoni con il mal di testa incorporato cercano un ospedale, cioè, il nostro ascolto, per essere abbracciate. Sono quelle di questo straordinario EP, senza ombra di dubbio il migliore della band dell’Illinois, qui in grado di mostrare doti circensi, con una spettacolare esibizione di qualità che si precisano nella credibilità, in un impegno che mostra creazioni che scuotono, smuovono, conducono a costruire un luogo per custodirle. I semi sono Post-Punk, i rami Darkwave, le foglie Coldwave e il cuore è un paravento emotivo che separa la tristezza dall’inquietudine, per un incantevole periodo di tempo speso molto bene: si incontrano attitudini deliziosamente americane in un contesto britannico, per una vittoria delle composizioni che dilatano le strutture decomposte della nostra conoscenza…

La mia Recensione: Art Decade - Urban Line

 Art Decade - Urban Line

Francia, 1991: per una volta possiamo celebrare una ristampa che può permettere a molti di mostrare l’incanto della formazione di Lione. Il trio aveva stabilito la possibilità di sorvolare il conosciuto, di portarci nella zona immensa di novità affamate e di non escludere a priori ciò che si conosceva già. Una valanga di giochi dalla meccanica precisa per allargare il proprio genio verso nuove formazioni che avevano intuito, a quel tempo, quanta ricchezza fosse depositata in questo fulmine dal colore mutante. Toni cupi, elastici di seta dentro chitarre che molto debbono ai Cure, ma nell’insieme sono altre le suggestioni possibili. Gravitano, nelle canzoni, esigenze di esplorazioni che si rendono bene evidenti: si fluttua, non esistono divagazioni, ma solo immense qualità che offrono il loro volto. Dal Post-Punk, al Progressive più misterioso e quasi nascosto, dalla Darkwave evidentemente bisognosa di contaminazione e non di purezza, tutto si dà appuntamento in questo miscelatore perennemente acceso, per consentire a questi marchingegni strepitosamente folli di emergere per generare il nostro delirio soddisfatto: si è amati da questo album, chiudete a chiave la giornata e abbandonatevi al suo circolo venereo…
