 No Juventud - Nudos

La formazione di Simon Gaviria torna con quattro tracce piene di quella sacralità che ben conosciamo: si entra nell’oltretomba per rimanerci, in un perimetro soffocante, avamposto di una eternità dove le ombre sono raggi di luce sepolcrali. Il loro Post-Punk è una scossa Darkwave ora, con elementi elettronici a rendere più vasto il loro repertorio, più in grado di affacciarsi agli anni Ottanta europei (La Tormenta), e gravitare nella nebulosa Neo Gotica (Dolor), mentre con Nudos qualcosa di sperimentale si presenta, pur ricordandoci nell’attacco iniziale i Cult dell’album Love. La conclusiva Salir A Jugar è sicuramente il brano che sferra l’attacco al passato della band Colombiana e ci mostra muscoli e lampi di di furore, spalancando il suo futuro verso atti di gloria: bentornati e grazie di cuore!

No Juventud - Nudos

Simon Gaviria's band returns with four tracks full of that sacredness we know so well: one enters the underworld to stay there, in a suffocating perimeter, an outpost of an eternity where shadows are sepulchral rays of light. Their Post-Punk is a Darkwave tremor now, with electronic elements to make their repertoire broader, more able to lean towards the European Eighties (La Tormenta), and gravitate into the Neo-Gothic nebula (Dolor), while with Nudos something experimental presents itself, though bringing up to our minds in the initial part The Cult and their album Love. The concluding Salir A Jugar is definitely the track that launches the attack on the Colombian band's past and shows us muscles and flashes of fury, opening its future towards acts of glory: welcome back and thank you!

 Excutioner's Mask - Despair Anthems

This album was, in 2020, considered by the old scribe to be the most granitic and dense one of that year, and he comes back to it, willing to write about it, so that its traces are not lost, because it is so extreme, generous, tenebrous, a tepid wave of malaise with a crucifix of breaths tattooed on its skin without any more power. The route provides an impressive gothic backdrop, a journey between genres without getting lost, with a robust manner that gives the measure of a sublime quality. The years of human lament always have a dim light, a shyness that can, however, know the muscles and anger that in all tracks show their face. The singing cannot fail to remind one of Rozz Williams, while the musical part is an ocean of references that finds a way to evolve, and this is a truly remarkable aspect. Deathrock is an inevitable hint, as is Gothic Rock, not to mention Darkwave and Post-Punk. But it is not a confused act, a free-for-all to prove who knows what. Instead, the American band has a strategic plan and achieves it, giving us the chance to live on an altar, running around its perimeter, to make us bats in worship...

 Excutioner’s Mask - Despair Anthems

Quest’album fu, nel 2020, fu considerato dal vecchio scriba quello più granitico e denso di quell’anno e ci torna su, volenteroso di scriverne, affinché non se ne perdano le tracce, in quanto così estremo, generoso, tenebroso, un’onda tiepida di malessere con tatuato sulla pelle un crocifisso di respiri senza più poteri. La rotta prevede uno scenario gotico impressionante, un viaggio tra i generi senza perdersi, con un fare robusto che dona la misura di una qualità eccelsa. Gli anni del lamento umano hanno sempre la luce fioca, una timidezza che però può conoscere i muscoli e la rabbia che in tutte le tracce ne mostrano il volto. Il cantato non può non ricordare Rozz Williams, mentre la parte musicale è un oceano di riferimenti che trova modo di compiere un'evoluzione, ed è questo un aspetto davvero notevole. Il Deathrock è un accenno inevitabile, come il Gothic Rock, per non parlare della Darkwave e del Post-Punk. Ma non è un atto confuso, un accesso libero per dimostrare chissà cosa. La band americana invece ha un piano strategico e lo raggiunge, dandoci la possibilità di vivere su un altare, correndo nel suo perimetro, per fare di noi pipistrelli in adorazione…

La mia Recensione: Mantarochen - Glaza

 Mantarochen - Glaza

Il vento gelido della storia tedesca non si arresta, non può, non vuole, soprattutto non deve. In quella parte centrale dell’Europa la musica è una donna che viene presa e scaraventata sul tetto per guardarla, a debita distanza, e impararne i trucchi. Poi la si riporta giù e si riceve uno schiaffo, perché i diritti sono stati calpestati. Ascolti questo brano e capisci che Lipsia è l’emblema di quella Nazione, la madre e la figlia di ogni esercizio di crescita. Prendi la canzone, un lungo elenco di richiami, che vengono subito stoppati, mostrando una evoluzione. Il Post-Punk è ancora inesplorato, nelle sue potenzialità, il gruppo lo sa e lo dimostra: fiuta nell’acciaio delle chitarre e del basso, confida nel drumming e va via, tra le strade piene di dubbi dei nostri ascolti beati. È una voglia invasata dal desiderio di ripetersi, la voce è sottile ma nevrotica, tutto propende a ricordarci gli arpeggi Darkwave della fine degli anni Settanta (Joy Division in primis), sino ad andare in Italia con i Diaframma. Si rischia molto ascoltando Glaza: come dare un pugno a chi si ama, riconoscergli il valore ma al contempo sentirsi prigioniero della sua bellezza…

 Mantarochen - Glaza

The icy wind of German history does not stop, cannot, will not, and above all must not. In that central part of Europe, music is a woman who is picked up and thrown up onto the roof to watch, at arm's length, and learn her tricks. Then she is brought back down and given a slap in the face because her rights have been trampled on. Listen to this song and you realise that Leipzig is the emblem of that nation, the mother and daughter of every growing-up exercise. Take the song, a long list of recalls, which are immediately stopped, showing an evolution. Post-Punk is still unexplored, in its potential, the band knows it and proves it: it sniffs in the steel of the guitars and bass, trusts in the drumming and goes away, through the doubt-filled streets of our blissful listening. It is a craving invaded by the desire to repeat itself, the vocals are subtle but neurotic, everything tends to remind us of the Darkwave arpeggios of the late Seventies (Joy Division in primis), even going to Italy with Diaframma. You risk a lot listening to Glaza: like punching someone you love, recognising their value but at the same time feeling imprisoned by their beauty...

 NLIGHT - The Kiss Of Death

Come è oscena la ricerca della bellezza: da millenni si compie lo stesso errore, non si esamina lo sbaglio delle nostre attitudini sbilenche e ci si concede al gusto.

Prendete il progetto solista di questo artista Francese, capace e volenteroso di prendere una spada piena di rovi e di tracciare nell’aria note che sembrano cariche di colpe, di gravità che non si possono cancellare. Scrive un brano che ci fa immergere nell’ebbrezza di una verità che ci ucciderà, ma non possiamo che accondiscendere al tutto, perché siamo stati messi in condizione di ricevere un dono che spalanca la storia. Quasi muta, misteriosa, gotica fino al suo midollo osseo, scava e lubrifica la storia umana con saggezza inesplorata. Vive un bacio nel testo, vive un abbraccio funereo nella musica, e vive la consapevolezza che il genere, lo stile musicale (multipli e vari) siano solo uno dei mezzi per esprimere una concettualità che ci arricchisce, mentre il fiato si congeda, non prima di avere ringraziato questo miracolo delirante…

 NLIGHT - The Kiss Of Death

How obscene is the pursuit of beauty: for millennia we have been making the same mistake, not examining the error of our ways and indulging in taste.

Take the solo project of this French artist, capable and willing to take a sword full of brambles and draw notes in the air that seem laden with guilt, with gravity that cannot be erased. He writes a piece that plunges us into the intoxication of a truth that will kill us, but we can only acquiesce to the whole, because we have been placed in a position to receive a gift that opens history wide. Almost mute, mysterious, gothic to its bone marrow, it excavates and lubricates human history with unexplored wisdom. It lives a kiss in the text, it lives a funereal embrace in the music, and it lives the knowledge that the genre, the musical style (multiple and various) are only one of the means to express a conceptuality that enriches us, while the breath takes its leave, not before having thanked this delirious miracle…

Siano puntati i riflettori sul meraviglioso Belgio. Questa band ha scritto un miracolo temporale, stilistico, dalle indubbie qualità, in grado di graffiare l’anima anche all’acciaio. Si pensi ai Fields of the Nephilim tenebrosi, in un giorno di pioggia, ai Joy Division con l'assenza di ogni volontà di vivere, e si avrà Stars, il nubifragio del cuore, la lentezza della processione che contempla il cielo e rende assente il vivere terreno, una tristezza che cammina e causa artriti nelle mani della mente, dove nessuna arca sarà in attesa per salvarci…

Sciamanica, rigida, connette la Darkwave alla Coldwave, il Gothic Rock al Post-Punk, ma questa è solo la superficie, un fatto che non stabilisce il valore di questa ondata di fumo nerastro…

Un brano che fa male, è utile alla causa della consapevolezza, punisce, e aiuta la verità a non circondarsi di inganni. Tetra, cupa, sa analizzare l’umore sempre più nero e lo bacia…

Let the spotlight shine on wonderful Belgium. This band has written a temporal, stylistic miracle of undoubted quality, capable of scratching the soul even out of steel. Think of the gloomy Fields of the Nephilim on a rainy day, of Joy Division with the absence of any will to live, and you will have Stars, the cloudburst of the heart, the slowness of the procession contemplating the sky and making earthly living absent, a sadness that walks and causes arthritis in the hands of the mind, where no ark will be waiting to save us

Shamanic, rigid, connecting Darkwave to Coldwave, Gothic Rock to Post-Punk, but this is only the surface, a fact that does not establish the value of this wave of blackish smoke...

A track that hurts, serves the cause of awareness, punishes, and helps truth not surround itself with deception. Bleak, sombre, it can analyse the increasingly black mood and kiss it...

At the time of writing, the whole world already knows this track, which will be part of the Greek combo's eagerly awaited new album, but the old scribe does not want to avoid the joy of giving credit to this duo and the satisfaction of certifying that their prowess, their state of grace, the quality of their path is destined to know both heaven and the deepest darkest zone. This leaden sonic arrow is a stage where their new inclinations are displayed, the fruit of commendable work in search of a mode that expresses all the density of a feeling of art as an absolute quest, where what is learned is not kept hidden. Generous and credible, the band explores a plethora of musical genres, not by extrapolating what could be useful, but rather by bringing it all towards a stratospheric manipulation, improving, producing in the listening the sensation of a house walking in the fog, through hungry synths, capable of caging freedom and making us discover the privilege of a truly useful and necessary sensorial and motor imprisonment. One dances worriedly, attentively, developing circuits of attention that decree the success of this song: let the record show that this duo is incapable of writing nonsense and vulgarity, while, on the contrary, making us grow with awareness…

Al momento della scrittura tutto il mondo già conosce questo brano, che farà parte dell’atteso nuovo album del combo greco, ma il vecchio scriba non vuole esimersi dalla gioia del rendere merito a questo duo e dalla soddisfazione di certificare che la loro bravura, il loro stato di grazia, la qualità del percorso sia destinato a conoscere sia il cielo che la più profonda zona oscura. Questa plumbea freccia sonora è un palcoscenico dove vengono mostrate le loro nuove inclinazioni, il frutto di un lavoro encomiabile alla ricerca di una modalità che esprima tutta la densità di un sentire l’arte come una ricerca assoluta, dove ciò che si impara non lo si tiene nascosto. Generosa e credibile, la band esplora una fiumana di generi musicali non estrapolando ciò che le potrebbe essere utile, bensì portando il tutto verso una stratosferica manipolazione, miglioria, producendo nell’ascolto la sensazione di una casa che cammina nella nebbia, attraverso synth affamati, capaci di mettere in gabbia la libertà e di farci scoprire il privilegio di una prigionia sensoriale e motoria davvero utile e necessaria. Si danza preoccupati, attenti, sviluppando circuiti di attenzioni che decretano il successo di questa canzone: sia messo agli atti che questo duo è incapace di scrivere sciocchezze e volgarità, mentre, al contrario, ci fa crescere con consapevolezza…

Is it enough for a couple from Prague to come up with an album that intoxicates the central nervous system, stressing it, annihilating it with such specific vehemence? Of course: if your name is Jan Vytiska and you compose music from murky acid nights, and if you are Tereza Ovćačikova with a voice like lightning speaking on a day filled with sensual sadness, then anything is possible.

You become a vampire renting electronic robotics that sneaks into Ebm, manufacturing an endless, destabilising and generously dark sound enchantment. Nine dances within the power of the Devil, lord of truth and father of deception: the two of them understood him and made him happy with these nine blackened gems...

Basta una coppia di Praga per ideare un album che intossica il sistema nervoso centrale, stressandolo, annichinendolo con cotanta veemenza specifica? Certo: se ti chiami Jan Vytiska e scrivi musiche che arrivano dalle torbide notti acide, e se sei Tereza Ovćačikova dalla voce di un fulmine che parla in un giorno pieno di sensuale tristezza, allora tutto è possibile.

Diventi un vampiro che affitta la robotica elettronica che si intrufola nella Ebm e allora puoi solo creare un incanto sonoro senza fine, destabilizzante e generosamente cupo.
