My Review: Allen Epley - Everything

 Allen Epley - Everything

The old scribe returns to Kentucky, and back to Louisville, for the debut album of this artist who has crafted a nuanced record, with distant roots but imbued with his own style that tends to fill it with a layer of magic that sometimes makes it difficult to understand: spectacular for that reason alone. The melodies and arrangements, clean and precise, give us the feeling of being in front of a film where nostalgia is replaced by an understanding of the past, an act of human maturity even before artistic maturity. It is an album that traverses the layers of the psyche and often does so from there, supported by the consideration of 70s music as the best, given the endless list of artists who combined art-music-psychology. Alternative meets softer Indie rock is already a miracle... His ability is to create music that sounds like the skin of dreams trying to be fished out. He does this with patience and commitment, with guitars that can be caressing and with a skilful use of slow but never boring rhythms. Slow but quick to enter the heart...
