Kill Shelter & Death Loves Veronica - The Sex Tape Sessions EP
The old scribe adores Pete Burns: a vehicle of necessary tension, the faithful subject of the God of dirty beauty, the magnet that develops the sweetest of addictions.
With him one is always waiting, as a primary fact, for his compositions, to be able to taste the city side of living, given by the wake of acute observations that he can transform into sombre dances.
With the EP The Sex Tape Sessions, we enjoy the voice of Veronica Stich, as always the tamer, who knows how to govern and mould instincts into acts of immeasurable ardour. She and Pete establish a plan of attack and take the world of complexities, frustrations, physical contact, the register of emotions and throw it into an electronic riff that has the task of being the masterful loop on which the voice becomes a free beater, between the sensual and sweetly woozy singing and the act of inhaling wickedly, guiding our thoughts in a wild dance that, as per script, turns us into self-propelled animals.
Thus we find ourselves in a dark electro capable of suggestion, a magnet that calls to itself, in a truly attractive way (it could not be otherwise), one strand with ebm molecules and another filled with a light but concrete synthpop. A delightful whimsy is celebrated: a minimalist thought within a robotic sequence that induces the abandonment of all will, leaving us as the only possibility to be bodies in motion in search of a physical contact, which will probably be within gothic mind games.
The two create a sweet and sick perversion: we enter into a continuous listening and everything disappears, while in front of our eyes provocative images are installed, in which the song dives to establish an intense contact. We get to listen to the complexity of creations that dress up genres by trying to immerse them in a bath that makes them perfectly functional, heterogeneous, independent and at the same time able to live together. Veronica and Pete share the tasks, building an electronic wall that makes the music a continent of sounds and flows in constant patrol, with the task of enhancing the Music-Voice-Climate trinomial, succeeding in delivering a continuous wave of oiled and verified mechanics. One finds oneself with vertiginous impulses: a stunner that the artistic couple knows how to procure, without smearing.
The Sinner is an erotic hill dripping with fluorescent robotics, with traces of Ebm that seem to come from London's hypothetical embrace with Edinburgh at the end of the last decade: Hamletic, conquering without opposition.
The EP's title track features two versions: twins with different skins, both capable of triggering an orgasmic brawl of the senses, for it is a deluge of clouds over dance halls, a plunge into the mystery of physicality that speaks to the mind. The Remix version could be the soundtrack to a space voyage, where everything becomes deafening in an unexceptionable way.
Death Kiss it is a triumph: musical genres are thrown into Veronica's voice and it is a windmill, synthetic in form, that bewitches and drives the dance to become robust, with a melodic piano provided by her vocal chords, which combine perfectly with the music: two suicides that bring captivating emotions to life. Synthpop and Dark Electro are united without creating silly jealousies, and it is a triumph.
With Resist perfection is read, listened to, seen, like an electronic thunderstorm that seeks poetry and finds it: splinters of Darkwave advance with flashes and flashes that illuminate this enchantment that goes beyond the sky. At the end, a synth seems to want to make Coldwave sit up and give way to perfection.
In conclusion: this work is a sublime treatise of Dark Electro that illuminates the light of mystery: Veronica's voice is a silk film that sucks in the air, while the musical wave is able to take us back to the Germany of the 80s and 90s, when she was beating the competition. And to continue her quest and her consequential awareness that this artistic alliance has struck gold in the darkness of infinity...
